Sell your semi truck for cash in Los Alamos the easy and convenient way

We buy all commercial trucks — sleeper trucks, dump trucks, mixers, log trucks, tankers and service bodies.

Across Los Alamos and the rest of Los Alamos County, the trucks on the road haul lumber and logs, move heavy machinery, carry general freight and collect refuse for a small set of local carriers.

Selling a truck in Los Alamos? Tell us about it and we'll take it from there.

A short list of carriers, most of them hauling their own goods

FMCSA’s carrier census shows 18 active motor carriers based in Los Alamos, and 12 of them are private fleets moving their own business’s goods rather than freight for hire. If your truck belongs to one of those private operations, have the title in the name of the business and a signature from whoever is authorised to sign for it, so the sale is not held up looking for the right person.

Of those 18 carriers, the federal census lists 16 as intrastate only and just 2 cleared for interstate work. A truck registered for New Mexico runs only is still one we collect; bring the current registration and the cab card so the plate details match what is on the title.

New registrations are rare up here: one carrier joined the FMCSA register in 2025 and none in 2024. If you are winding down an operation that has run out of Los Alamos for years, gather the service records you have kept over that time and send them along with the VIN.

Lumber, machinery and refuse trucks working out of Los Alamos

General freight is the cargo listed by 7 Los Alamos carriers in the FMCSA census, while log, pole, beam and lumber hauling and machinery or large-object moves are each declared by 4. A log truck with its bunks and stakes, or a lowboy tractor, should be photographed with the trailer or equipment it works with, and the photos should show the plates and the VIN plate clearly.

Three carriers in the same federal census declare garbage, refuse and trash as cargo. For a packer or roll-off truck, tell us the body make and whether the body is titled separately from the chassis; a separately titled body means a second title to sign over.

On fleet size, FMCSA lists one local carrier with 7 power units and 15 drivers, another with 7 power units and a single driver, and a third with 2 units and 2 drivers. Selling several units from a fleet like that? Send a list of VINs and where each one is parked, and we arrange the collection unit by unit.

Gravel pits, a mineral mine and an asphalt terminal south and east of town

The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the Lowdermilk sand and gravel operation 14.8 miles north-east of town and the Santa Fe River Pit, another sand and gravel site, 21 miles to the south-east. A dump truck or tractor that has hauled aggregate from those pits can be collected at the pit yard or a contractor’s lot; give us a gate contact and the hours the site is open.

Cerrito Pelado, an industrial-mineral mine, lies 24.4 miles south-east according to the Mine Safety and Health Administration. If your truck is parked at a mine site, ask the operator before we arrive whether a site escort or sign-in is required, and pass that on with the address.

To the south, 22.4 miles out, the Energy Information Administration lists Rosario Asphalt as a petroleum product terminal. Tankers and asphalt distributors that load there should come with their tank inspection paperwork if you still have it, plus the title for both the tractor and any trailer you are selling.

Builders and shops: Los Alamos County’s construction and plant jobs

The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts put 20,140 jobs in Los Alamos for 2023, with construction accounting for 245 of them, about 1.2 percent. County Business Patterns, also from the Census Bureau, records 21 construction establishments in the county. A contractor retiring a dump truck, flatbed or service body truck can sell it from the job yard; we need the title, the keys and a clear photo of each side.

Manufacturing held 124 local jobs in 2023, roughly 0.6 percent, according to those same LEHD counts. Box trucks and straight trucks from a shop or plant are welcome too, and the build sheet or the sticker inside the door gives us the axle ratings without guesswork.

Bridges and rules

Bridge clearances and New Mexico’s heavy-duty truck rules

Of the 13 bridges the National Bridge Inventory records for Los Alamos, none carries a load posting and none sits under 14 feet. Tell us whether the truck is loaded or empty and where it is parked, so the pickup route can be planned to that exact spot.

New Mexico’s Advanced Clean Trucks requirement and its Heavy-Duty Omnibus engine standard are both in force, as published in the New Mexico Administrative Code register. When you list the truck, include the engine make and the engine family from the emissions label under the hood, so we have the engine details written down from the start.

The questions we get asked in Los Alamos

  • My log truck sits at a timber landing outside Los Alamos; will you pick it up from the landing?Four Los Alamos carriers declare logs, poles, beams and lumber as cargo in FMCSA’s census, so landings and yards outside town are familiar ground. Send the location with directions from the nearest paved road and a contact who can meet the driver.
  • Our Los Alamos business runs its own trucks, not for hire; is a private-fleet truck one you buy?Twelve of the 18 active carriers in Los Alamos are private fleets under FMCSA’s carrier census, and we collect from businesses like those. Have the title in the company’s name and an officer or owner ready to sign.
  • The truck hauled gravel from the Lowdermilk pit and is still parked near it; does it have to come into Los Alamos?Lowdermilk is 14.8 miles north-east of Los Alamos per the Mine Safety and Health Administration, and the truck can stay wherever it is parked. Send the pit-side address and the name of whoever can unlock the yard for our driver.
  • What paperwork should I have ready for a refuse truck?Three local carriers list garbage and refuse hauling in the FMCSA census, and each truck like theirs needs its title, current registration and, where the body is titled on its own, that title as well. Service records help if you have kept them.
