Valley aggregate
Gravel trucks from Tome Pit to the Orona workings
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Tome Pit, a sand and gravel operation, 3 miles north of Rio Communities, and a second sand and gravel site called Orona 9.9 miles up the same direction. A dump truck or end-dump tractor that hauls aggregate out of those pits is the sort we collect here, and it can stay parked at the pit or the yard where it works while we arrange the visit.
Farther out, Mountain States Crusher GCP 3164 is a crushed-stone quarry 14.9 miles to the north-west, according to MSHA’s mine register. If your truck has run stone from that crusher, note which body it carries, whether a belly-dump trailer goes with it, and where it can be reached by our driver.
Los Padillas Pit, an industrial-mineral mine 21.7 miles north on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, rounds out the valley’s quarry work. For any of these haulers, photograph the dump body, the hoist, the cab and the VIN plate before you call, so the first conversation is about the truck you actually own.
The Belen yard across the river
Just 3 miles west of Rio Communities, across the Rio Grande, the Belen rail yard shows up in the North American Rail Network that the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics maintain. Day cabs that shuttle freight to and from a yard like this one log short local runs, and that is a perfectly ordinary history for a tractor to bring to us.
If your tractor has been working Belen, gather the title, the current registration and any service invoices in one folder. Tell us whether it sits inside a fenced lot or on your own property in Rio Communities, and who can open the gate on the day.
Tanker runs north
Tank work on the road to the Albuquerque terminals
Two petroleum product terminals listed under Albuquerque appear in Energy Information Administration records at 23.9 and 24.1 miles north of town. Fuel tankers and the tractors that pull them make that run up the valley, and we take both the power unit and the trailer if you own them together.
For a tanker, list the trailer’s capacity and compartments, and keep its test and inspection paperwork alongside the truck’s own title. Those sheets answer most of what we would otherwise ask, and they let us describe the unit properly to our pickup crew.
A manufacturing town in its job counts
Of 378 jobs located in Rio Communities in 2023, 219 were in manufacturing, a 57.9 percent share in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. Box trucks, flatbeds and tractors that move goods in and out of plant floors are the vehicles that kind of employment keeps on the road.
If a box truck or straight truck from a local plant is now surplus to your operation, send us the body length, the liftgate details if it has one, and a picture of the odometer. A company-owned unit also needs the name exactly as it appears on the title, so whoever signs for the business can sign for the sale.
County agriculture
Equine barns, potted plants and tomato fields around Rio Communities
Valencia County counted 978 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with equine, potted flowering plants and tomatoes leading its listed products. Stock trailers’ tow rigs, flatbeds that carry hay, and box trucks loaded with greenhouse plants all come out of that mix.
A farm truck often lives in a barn or a field rather than a paved lot, so describe the ground it sits on and whether a tow rig can turn around beside it. If the registration lapsed while it stayed on the farm, the title is still the paper that matters most.
Owners in Rio Communities deciding what to do with a diesel unit can read both rules in the New Mexico Register before they call. Whatever you decide, have the engine’s make and model and the VIN ready, since those identify which standard the truck was built to.
The questions we get asked in Rio Communities
- Will you pick up a truck parked at a gravel pit near Rio Communities?Tome Pit sits 3 miles north of town on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and a hauler parked there or at any pit in the valley can be collected where it stands once you give us the location and who controls the gate.
- Do you take tractors that work the Belen rail yard? The Belen yard lies 3 miles west on the North American Rail Network, and day cabs that serve it fit what we purchase; have the title and registration together before we arrive.
- Can I sell a tanker that runs to the Albuquerque fuel terminals?Energy Information Administration records put those terminals about 24 miles north, and we take tank trailers with their tractors, so include the trailer’s inspection papers with your photos.
- What about a farm truck from elsewhere in Valencia County?Valencia County’s 978 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture cover a wide area, and we collect from any of them; tell us the road access and send pictures of the truck as it sits.
