Tankers between East Providence and the Providence waterfront
The Energy Information Administration places a petroleum product terminal in East Providence about 3 miles south of Pawtucket, and a second one in Providence roughly 4.7 miles to the south-west. If your tanker tractor loads at either one, give us the street address of the yard where it parks and the name of whoever holds the gate key.
Two Sprague Energy liquid bulk terminals appear on the Bureau of Transportation Statistics list, one 3 miles south and one 4.7 miles south-west of town. If your truck pulled product trailers out of those sites, tell us whether the trailer is part of the sale or stays behind, and have the tractor’s title and current Rhode Island registration on hand.
Two miles to the Providence rail yard, five to the port
According to the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the Providence rail yard lies about 2 miles south-west of Pawtucket. A day cab that shuttles freight to that yard can be collected right where it sits between runs; send photos of the cab, frame and fifth wheel along with the VIN.
Further south, the Port of Providence is about 5.3 miles south on the Bureau of Transportation Statistics port listing. Container and flatbed tractors that work the docks there do not need to come up to Pawtucket for us to buy them; tell us which lot the truck is on and who to call at the gate.
General freight, car haulers and coil flatbeds
Of the 301 Pawtucket-based carriers active on FMCSA’s census, general freight is the cargo listed by 205. With 37 carriers hauling motor vehicles, 29 moving machinery and large objects, and 27 carrying metal sheets, coils and rolls on that same census, car haulers and flatbeds sit alongside the box trucks and dry vans. Whatever the body, tell us what it is built to carry and send a photo of the deck or box.
Of those carriers, the federal census counts 233 running interstate, 67 staying inside Rhode Island and 149 operating as private fleets for their own goods. Drivers split between 532 who stay within 100 miles and 432 who travel beyond that, per FMCSA. Tell us which state the truck is titled and plated in, and have that title ready to sign.
New registrations keep arriving: FMCSA’s carrier census records 31 Pawtucket carriers starting in 2025 and 27 in 2024. If you are winding down a young operating authority and selling the one truck it ran, have the title in the company name and a signed letter showing who can sign for the business.
What the 2020 median model year means for a sale
Between August 2024 and August 2026, FMCSA roadside inspection records logged 405 trucks from Pawtucket operators, and the middle model year among them was 2020. On those same FMCSA inspections, about 25 percent of the trucks were ten or more model years old.
For the 119 local carriers that report it to FMCSA, the median distance is 18,653 miles a truck each year. Whichever model year yours is, read the odometer, photograph the data plate on the door jamb and send both with the VIN so we can match the truck to its title.
Factories, building sites and the gravel pit
Manufacturing accounts for 2,869 of the 21,165 jobs located in Pawtucket in 2023, about 13.6 percent, by the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. Construction adds 1,416 jobs and wholesale trade 841 in that same LEHD release. A straight truck or tractor kept at a mill building or warehouse dock can be picked up there, so tell us the loading door or bay where it sits.
County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau put 168 construction businesses in Providence County, from site contractors to paving crews. The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Lynch Corp, a sand and gravel operation about 4.3 miles north-west of town. Dump trucks and mixers that run between job sites and that pit can be collected at the contractor’s yard; have the registration and any service records together in the cab.
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 362 farms in Providence County, with cattle, hogs and cut Christmas trees as the leading products. A farm truck kept on a county property can stay right there for collection; just send directions to the barn or shed.
Central Avenue clearance and Rhode Island emissions rules
Inside Pawtucket the National Bridge Inventory records 40 structures, with load limits posted on 4 and a single one under 14 feet. The lowest in the National Bridge Inventory is Central Avenue over I-95, at 13 feet 8 inches; if your truck is tall or carries a high load, tell us where it is parked and we will route the pickup around that overpass.
The Rhode Island Secretary of State’s rules site lists the state’s Advanced Clean Trucks program and the Heavy-Duty Engine and Vehicle Omnibus Regulation as in force. Neither stops you selling a truck you already own; send the engine model year from the emissions label under the hood with your photos.
The questions we get asked in Pawtucket
- My tanker parks at a yard by the East Providence fuel terminal; does it have to be driven up to Pawtucket first? It stays put: the Energy Information Administration places that terminal about 3 miles south of Pawtucket, and we collect from the East Providence yard itself, so send the yard address and the name of the person with the gate key.
- Can you collect a tall truck given the Central Avenue overpass? We can, because the National Bridge Inventory puts the Central Avenue crossing over I-95 at 13 feet 8 inches, so tell us the truck’s height and where it stands and we plan the route around it.
- My dump truck hauls out of the Lynch Corp gravel pit north-west of town; will you collect it at the pit?We will; the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists that sand and gravel operation about 4.3 miles north-west of town, so tell us who manages the site so the collection is arranged with them.
