Produce and reefers
Cold freight out of the Valley
Of the 1,125 active carriers FMCSA’s carrier census places in McAllen, 384 list fresh produce among their cargo, and 301 list refrigerated food. If your tractor has pulled a reefer between packing sheds and cold storage, tell us whether the trailer is part of the sale or stays with you, so we collect only what you mean to sell.
Meat shows up on 301 McAllen carrier registrations in the same FMCSA census, alongside 808 that haul general freight. A tractor that has switched between those loads only needs its title, its current registration and a few clear photos of the cab, the frame and the reefer unit if one goes with it.
Caliche, gravel and crushed stone close to town
Texan Pit, a sand and gravel operation, lies 4.2 miles north-west of McAllen according to the Mine Safety and Health Administration, and La Havana Pit, a crushed-stone quarry, sits 7.4 miles to the north-east. Dump trucks and end-dump tractors that cycle between those pits and job sites can be collected where they are parked; send us the yard address and the name of whoever holds the gate key.
Further west, Tabasco Pit is 12.4 miles out and the Frontera Materials mobile crusher works 15 miles away, both on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list. A truck parked at a pit instead of at home is fine; tell us the site and any gate rules for visitors.
Donna’s ramp and the Edinburg terminal
The Rio Valley intermodal ramp at Donna is 10.2 miles east, per the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Day cabs that dray containers off that ramp are trucks we buy; the VIN and odometer reading are the two things to send first.
North-east of town, 12.4 miles out, the Energy Information Administration lists the Edinburg petroleum product terminal. A tractor that has pulled fuel tankers from there should come with whatever hazmat and tank inspection records you kept, since those papers describe its working history.
Local and long-haul operators in McAllen
Intrastate operators outnumber interstate ones in McAllen, 688 to 422, on FMCSA’s carrier census, and 168 of the registered carriers are private fleets moving their own goods. Whichever group you belong to, have your USDOT number handy; it lets us match the truck to the registration you already hold.
New registrations kept arriving, with FMCSA recording 91 new McAllen carriers in 2024 and 97 in 2025. The three biggest fleets on that census run 165, 55 and 52 power units. A fleet selling several units at once can send one list of VINs and parking spots, and we plan the collection around it.
Miles, model years and bridges
Among 267 McAllen carriers reporting mileage to FMCSA, the median truck covers 57,792 miles a year. Note the current odometer reading in your message so the figure we work from is yours.
FMCSA roadside inspection records from August 2024 to August 2026 cover 1,472 trucks tied to McAllen carriers, with a median model year of 2018 and 36.7% at ten or more years old. The National Bridge Inventory counts 42 bridges in the city, none load-posted and none under 14 feet, so tell us simply where the truck is and we route the collection from there.
Farm and work
Cotton, cattle and the jobs that move them
Hidalgo County’s 2,045 farms, led by cotton, corn and cattle in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, put grain and livestock trucks on McAllen’s back roads. Grain trucks, cattle haulers and module trucks parked on a farm can stay put; give us directions to the field gate or barn.
McAllen held 94,366 jobs in 2023 according to the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, including 2,628 in transportation and warehousing, 3,926 in wholesale trade and 1,612 in construction. County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau lists 182 construction establishments and 25 warehousing ones, so a contractor selling a dump truck or a warehouse selling a yard tractor can reach us the same way an owner-operator does.
