Plano is an office city whose trucks belong to someone else: fewer than one job in a hundred inside the city is in transportation and warehousing, yet one fleet based here runs more than 1,700 power units with 2,500 drivers, and two in three of the drivers its carriers report work interstate beyond a hundred miles. The median carrier reports 44,000 miles a year on each power unit.
After general freight the cargoes its carriers declare most are household goods, paper, motor vehicles and refrigerated food, so a Plano lot holds a moving van, a box truck on the paper routes, a car hauler, a reefer, and the semi truck with a sleeper parked at home between runs. Plano has no county tax office of its own on the state's list; the Collin County Tax Office at 2300 Bloomdale Road, Suite 2302, in McKinney records the title transfer and starts a certified copy of a lost title for the Department of Motor Vehicles.
