FE Series β€” Light Duty Cab-Over

Discontinued 2020

The core of the North American Fuso lineup β€” Class 3–5 light duty cab-over trucks sold from 1985 through 2020. The most common Fuso in the used market. All purchased.

1985 β€” 2020

Fuso FE Diesel

Class 3–5 Cab-Over 4D34 / 4M50 Turbo Diesel FE130 / FE160 / FE180

The Fuso FE diesel is the most common Mitsubishi Fuso in North America β€” a Class 3–5 low cab forward sold from 1985 through 2020 in diesel configuration. The model number indicates approximate GVWR in hundreds of pounds: FE130 = 13,000 lbs, FE160 = 16,000 lbs, FE180 = 17,995 lbs. Powered by the Mitsubishi 4D34 and later 4M50 turbodiesel four-cylinder engines producing 127 HP. Available in standard cab and crew cab configurations with wheelbase options from 108 to 187 inches. Widely used in box truck, flatbed, refrigerated, and urban service body applications. Competes with the Isuzu NPR in the Class 3–5 segment.

Fuso FE Gas Truck

Class 3–5 Cab-Over 6.0L GM Vortec V8 Allison 6-Speed Auto

The Fuso FE Gas Truck was introduced for the 2019 model year as a gasoline-powered alternative to the diesel FE β€” specifically created for the North American market. Powered by a 6.0-liter GM Vortec V8 producing 297 HP paired with an Allison 6-speed automatic transmission. Assembled at the Freightliner plant in Gaffney, South Carolina. Available in FE140 (14,500 lbs GVWR) and FE160 (15,995 lbs GVWR) configurations, with the FE180 (17,995 lbs) added for the 2020 model year. The gas engine was popular with operators who preferred gasoline for easier fueling and maintenance. Production continued through approximately 2021 after Fuso ceased diesel FE sales in 2020.

2000s

Sterling 360 (Rebadged FE)

Class 3–5 Cab-Over Fuso FE Platform Sterling Trucks Badging

In the 2000s, the Mitsubishi Fuso FE was sold through Sterling Trucks dealer network as the Sterling 360 β€” a rebadged Fuso FE with Sterling Trucks branding. Sterling Trucks was a Daimler brand (sibling to Freightliner) before being discontinued in 2009. The Sterling 360 is mechanically identical to the Fuso FE of the same era β€” the same Mitsubishi 4D34 or 4M50 turbodiesel engine, same cab, same frame. Buyers of used Sterling 360 trucks should be aware that Fuso parts and service apply directly to their truck. We purchase all Sterling 360 trucks in any condition.

The FG was popular with utility companies, municipal fleets, and vocational operators needing the maneuverability of a cab-over combined with all-wheel drive capability for off-road access. Used in utility bucket trucks, terrain vehicles, and off-road service applications. Discontinued around 2019 as Fuso wound down its North American lineup. We purchase all FG 4×4 trucks in any condition.

The Fuso FH was a Class 5 medium duty cab-over available in the North American Fuso lineup during certain model years β€” based on the Mitsubishi Fuso Fighter Mignon platform that was grouped with the Canter/FE family for export markets due to its cab design. Powered by a 145 HP six-cylinder turbodiesel β€” a step up from the four-cylinder FE. The FH provided additional payload capacity above the standard FE lineup. Available in limited configurations in the North American market. We purchase all FH trucks in any condition with a clear title.

We purchase all eCanter and RIZON trucks in any condition.

About Mitsubishi Fuso in North America

Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) is a Japanese commercial vehicle manufacturer that has been part of Daimler AG (now Daimler Truck AG) since 2003, when Daimler acquired a controlling stake. MFTBC operates manufacturing plants in Kawasaki, Japan and Tramagal, Portugal. Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America, Inc. (MFTA) has distributed Fuso trucks in the United States since 1985.

On May 27, 2020, Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America announced the cessation of diesel FE and FG sales in the United States and Canada β€” a significant withdrawal from the North American cab-over market that Fuso had served for 35 years. Gas-powered FE models continued briefly after the diesel discontinuation. New Fuso trucks are now sold in North America primarily through the RIZON Trucks brand for electric models. A legacy parts and service network remains in place for the large installed base of used Fuso trucks throughout the country.

Fuso Model Naming System β€” North America

In North America, Fuso trucks use letter and number designations where the letters indicate the series and the numbers indicate approximate GVWR in hundreds of pounds:

  • FE130 β€” FE Series, approximately 13,000 lbs GVWR β€” Class 3
  • FE160 β€” FE Series, approximately 16,000 lbs GVWR β€” Class 4
  • FE180 β€” FE Series, approximately 17,995 lbs GVWR β€” Class 5
  • FG β€” 4WD version of the FE. Single wheelbase configuration. Class 3–4.
  • FH β€” Larger Class 5 cab-over with six-cylinder engine. Intermittently available.
  • FK β€” Class 6 heavy cab-over based on the Fighter platform. Discontinued early 2000s.
  • FM β€” Class 6–7 heavy cab-over. Multiple configurations (SR, SP, MR, HR). Discontinued early 2000s.
  • Sterling 360 β€” Rebadged FE sold through Sterling Trucks dealers in the 2000s.
  • eCanter / RIZON β€” Battery electric version of the Canter/FE platform. Sold as RIZON in North America from 2023.

Fuso Engine History β€” North America

  • 4D34-T3 (1985–2000s) β€” The original diesel engine in the North American FE and FG. A 3.9-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel producing 127 HP. Reliable and well-regarded for longevity.
  • 4M50-T2 (2001–2020) β€” Updated 4.9-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel replacing the 4D34 in the FE Series for improved emissions compliance and power. 127 HP.
  • 6D16-T3/T4 (1985–2000s) β€” Six-cylinder turbodiesel used in the FK and FM heavy cab-over series. 145–170 HP depending on configuration.

  • 6.0L GM Vortec V8 (2018–2021) β€” GM-sourced gasoline V8 producing 297 HP used in the North America-specific FE Gas Truck. Same engine family used in Isuzu NPR gas trucks. Paired with Allison 6-speed automatic.
  • Electric Motor (2017–present) β€” 115 kW permanent magnet synchronous AC motor in the eCanter/RIZON with six Mercedes-Benz lithium-ion battery modules.

Fuso & ARCHION Group

In 2026, Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation integrated with Hino Motors under a new holding company called ARCHION Group β€” a joint venture between Daimler Truck and Toyota Motor Corporation. This brings Fuso and Hino together under a single operational entity for the first time, combining resources for commercial vehicle development, manufacturing, and electrification. The ARCHION integration does not affect parts or service availability for existing North American Fuso trucks.
