R1T Drivetrain Configurations

In Production

The R1T is available in three drivetrain configurations β€” Dual Motor, Tri Motor, and Quad Motor. All configurations purchased in any condition.

2022 β€” Present

R1T Dual Motor AWD

Dual Motor AWD 533 HP (Standard) / 665 HP (Performance) Up to 420 mi Range 11,000 lb Towing

The core R1T configuration and the most common in the used market β€” dual motor all-wheel-drive with one motor per axle. Available in standard output (533 HP) and Performance output (665 HP) variants. Range varies significantly by battery pack: Standard battery (105 kWh) delivers approximately 231 miles, Large battery (135 kWh) approximately 314 miles, and Max battery (149 kWh) up to 420 miles β€” making the Dual Motor with Max battery the longest-range R1T configuration available. Towing capacity of 11,000 lbs. The 2025 refresh updated the front fascia, interior, and charging port from CCS to NACS. Starting price around $70,990 for 2026.

2025 β€” Present

R1T Tri Motor AWD

Tri Motor AWD Max Battery Only 11,000 lb Towing

The Tri Motor configuration was introduced with the 2025 refresh as a new middle ground between the Dual Motor and Quad Motor. Three permanent magnet motors β€” two at the rear and one at the front β€” delivering performance and efficiency between the two existing configurations. Available only with the Max battery pack. Priced between the Dual Motor Max and Quad Motor. Less common in the used market than the Dual Motor due to its recent introduction. We purchase all Tri Motor examples in any condition.

2022 β€” Present

R1T Quad Motor AWD

Quad Motor AWD 835–1,025 HP 0–60 in 2.5 sec Individual Wheel Drive

The Quad Motor is the R1T’s top performance configuration β€” one motor per wheel for individual wheel torque control. First generation Quad Motor produced 835 HP. The 2nd generation Quad Motor (introduced with the 2025 refresh) produces 1,025 HP and enables 0–60 mph in 2.5 seconds β€” making it one of the fastest production pickup trucks ever built. The individual wheel motor setup enables Rivian’s “Tank Turn” feature β€” allowing the truck to spin in place by driving opposite wheels in opposite directions. Also unlocks “Kick Turn” for 2026. Available with the Max battery pack. Starting at $99,990 for 2026.

2022 β€” 2023

Launch Edition & Explore / Adventure

Early Production Explore & Adventure Packages First Customer Deliveries

Early R1T production (2022–2023) was sold in two primary trim packages β€” Explore (base) and Adventure (fully loaded) β€” rather than the Γ  la carte options available later. The Launch Edition was a limited configuration available to early reservation holders. These early production R1T trucks are identifiable by their pre-refresh styling including the original front fascia, CCS charging port, and first-generation interior. Well-maintained early examples with low mileage retain significant value. We purchase all early production R1T trucks in any condition.

R1T Battery Packs

All Purchased

Three battery pack options across the R1T lineup. Battery configuration significantly affects range and resale value.

Standard Battery

105 kWh β€” Standard Pack

105 kWh ~231 mi EPA Range Entry Level

The Standard battery pack at 105 kWh provides approximately 231 miles of EPA-estimated range β€” the shortest range in the R1T lineup. Used in the entry-level Dual Motor Standard configuration. Charges at up to 140 kW DC fast charging. The Standard pack trades range for a lower purchase price and is the least common battery configuration in the used market. Real-world range in warm weather conditions is typically close to the EPA estimate; cold weather significantly reduces range on all R1T battery configurations.

Large Battery

135 kWh β€” Large Pack

135 kWh ~314 mi EPA Range 210 kW DC Fast Charge

The Large battery pack at 135 kWh delivers approximately 314 miles of EPA-estimated range β€” the mid-tier option providing a solid balance of range and cost. Charges at up to 210 kW DC fast charging β€” the fastest charging rate available on the R1T. This is the most commonly found battery configuration in the used R1T market. Available with the Dual Motor configuration. Real-world range with the Large pack is typically 270–290 miles under mixed driving conditions with moderate climate and speed.

Max Battery

149 kWh β€” Max Pack

149 kWh Up to 420 mi EPA Range Required for Quad Motor

The Max battery pack at 149 kWh delivers up to 420 miles of EPA-estimated range on the Dual Motor configuration β€” the longest range of any R1T. The Max pack is the only battery option available on the Quad Motor and Tri Motor configurations. Commands the highest resale value of any R1T battery configuration due to its range advantage. Charges at up to 210 kW DC fast charging. The Dual Motor with Max battery is widely considered the optimal R1T configuration for most buyers β€” maximum range with strong performance at a lower price than the Quad Motor.

R1T Key Specifications

2022–Present

Key dimensions, storage, and capability specifications across the R1T lineup.

Dimensions & Bed

Mid-Size Footprint, Full-Size Width

217.1″ Length 54″ Bed Length 2,006–2,500 lb Payload

The R1T is 217.1 inches long and 79.3 inches wide β€” longer than a mid-size truck but narrower than a full-size. Rivian classifies it as a luxury mid-size pickup. The bed measures 54 inches long (4.5 feet) β€” shorter than most full-size trucks but usable for most applications. The motorized powered tonneau cover is standard. Body-on-frame construction with the chassis bolted and glued rather than welded to the body. Curb weight is approximately 7,148 lbs for the Quad Motor β€” significantly heavier than gasoline competitors, which affects payload and towing calculations.

Unique Storage

Frunk, Gear Tunnel & Bed

11 cu ft Frunk 65 gal Gear Tunnel Power Tonneau

The R1T’s most distinctive feature is its three-zone storage system. The front trunk (frunk) provides 11 cubic feet of lockable storage under the hood β€” accessible via key fob or app. The Gear Tunnel is a pass-through storage compartment between the cab and bed on the driver’s side, measuring approximately 65 gallons of volume and long enough for a sleeping bag or ski equipment. The bed adds the primary cargo area with an electric powered tonneau cover. Combined storage is unmatched by any other pickup truck in any class. The Gear Tunnel is the most talked-about R1T feature among owners.

Towing & Off-Road

11,000 lb Towing β€” Air Suspension

11,000 lb Max Towing Adaptive Air Suspension 34″ Water Fording

The R1T’s maximum towing capacity is 11,000 lbs β€” competitive with gasoline mid-size trucks, though real-world towing range is significantly reduced. Adaptive air suspension with multiple height settings comes standard β€” the R1T can raise for off-road clearance or lower for highway aerodynamics. Water fording depth of 34 inches. Ground clearance of 14.9 inches at full lift. The optional off-road package adds all-terrain tires and underbody protection. Independent motor control on the Quad Motor provides exceptional traction on loose surfaces. The R1T has been used in overlanding and off-road competitions with strong results.

About Rivian

Rivian Automotive was founded in 2009 by Robert “RJ” Scaringe in Florida as Avera Automotive β€” focused initially on hybrid sports cars. After failing to attract sufficient investment for sports cars, Scaringe pivoted in 2011 to focus on electric pickup trucks and SUVs, recognizing that the truck and SUV market represented far greater commercial opportunity. The company relocated to Plymouth, Michigan and rebranded as Rivian.

Rivian’s primary manufacturing facility is in Normal, Illinois β€” the former Mitsubishi Motors plant acquired in 2017. Production of the R1T began in September 2021, making Rivian the first company to deliver a mass-produced all-electric pickup truck to customers in North America β€” beating the Ford F-150 Lightning and Tesla Cybertruck to market. Amazon is a major Rivian investor and customer, operating thousands of Rivian Electric Delivery Vans (EDVs) for last-mile package delivery.

The 2025 R1T Refresh β€” What Changed

Rivian significantly updated the R1T for the 2025 model year β€” the most substantial update since the original launch. Key changes included a revised front fascia with new headlight design, a completely updated interior with new materials and a revised center console, the addition of the Tri Motor drivetrain as a new configuration, and the switch from CCS to NACS (Tesla-style) charging port. The 2nd generation Quad Motor with 1,025 HP replaced the original 835 HP version. OTA (over-the-air) software updates continue to add features and performance improvements to all R1T trucks regardless of model year.

Rivian R1T in the Used Market

The R1T occupies a premium position in the used electric truck market β€” generally retaining value better than the Tesla Cybertruck due to its more conventional styling and broader real-world utility. Key factors affecting R1T resale value include battery configuration (Max pack commands the highest premium), drivetrain (Quad Motor and Tri Motor command premiums over base Dual Motor), mileage, condition of the stainless body panels and interior, and software version. Battery degradation is a concern for high-mileage examples β€” Rivian’s battery management system is generally conservative and degradation rates have been lower than some competitors. The unique Gear Tunnel and frunk storage make the R1T genuinely useful in ways that matter to buyers.

Charging β€” CCS vs NACS

  • 2022–2024 R1T β€” CCS (Combined Charging System) port. Compatible with Rivian’s own Adventure Network chargers, Electrify America, EVgo, and other CCS networks. An adapter is available for Tesla Supercharger access.
  • 2025–Present R1T β€” NACS (North American Charging Standard, Tesla-style) port. Direct access to Tesla Supercharger network β€” the largest and most reliable fast-charging network in North America. Also compatible with CCS networks via adapter.
  • Rivian Adventure Network β€” Rivian operates its own proprietary DC fast-charging network at outdoor recreational destinations across North America β€” available to R1T and R1S owners. Over 10,000 chargers as of 2025.
